Perhaps with rhyme instead of prose
I’ll cast their eyes beneath their nose
No allegory or metaphor
To their lightning senses bore
Whimsical grammar and punctuation
Short and saccharine stirs the nation
Childlike rhyme and simple riddle
May coax attention to the middle.
A tense and mismatched citizenry
Twisted toward mediocrity
Petting peeves, protecting foes
Absent Reason, increasing woes
Still listen they to those in power
Upon the unknown insult shower
Despising self, the moreso others
Witness here no band of brothers
High-speed lives, wired passengers
Bearing arms, shooting messengers.
Summer verse with cheerful lilt
Might fickle Public favor tilt
So long as each remains unscathed
His own affairs beyond tirade
The stiff of neck and hard of heart
Are much affronted by their part
In order to their fondness win
Observe not sinners, only sin
Cite effect but blame no cause
The while giving people pause
To contemplate a nobler way
Lest folly with our lives we pay.
