I am MAXIMALLY offended by New York Times High Flyer David Brooks dismissal of Tea Partiers as “WallMart Hippies.” I challenge him, if this reaches up to his Ivory Tower, to clarify EXACTLY what aspersions he intended to cast upon WallMart, the corporate behemoth, and upon the tens of millions of Americans who shop at WallMart.

From where I sit, NOT in an Ivory Tower, it feels like HATE SPEECH.

I wrote “The Magic Suit” on 22 December 2008, en route to the TOTALLY BULLSHIT Iowa Caucuses.

Point me to Change.

THE MAGIC SUIT

I don’t know who died and decreed that The Suit…apparently forever more, with scarcely a change per hundred years…shall constitute Dressing For Success and Dressing For Failure, Dressing For Show and Dressing For Sorrow, Dressing For God and Dressing For Government…Dressing For Wheeling, Dealing AND Stealing, Dressing for Convention, Compliance AND Court. However, comma, since the time of THAT stroke of fashion wizardry, The Suit has clearly-but-not-clearly, surely-but-surreptitiously transformed into an Invisibility Cloak.

What other costume has commanded so much respect while committing so much mayhem?

It’s been a long, long day. It’s time to loosen the neck ties and go through pockets…take the soiled Suits to the cleaners, and the shiny Suits to the Goodwill. Some a them shiny suited fellers are goin’ to jail, I expect, and will be wearin’ orange for awhile. Orange, I once read, is the color of Madness.
